Mission Statement

Shandrum National School is a school which strives to provide a caring, learning environment, which facilitates the nurturing of each pupil's full educational potential. We strive to provide a well-ordered, happy and secure atmosphere where the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs of all pupils of all abilities are identified and addressed.

While Shandrum National School is a co-educational, Catholic, primary school and a catholic ethos permeates all school activities, we welcome every child in our community of different religious beliefs/none, and endeavour to create an inclusive environment for our pupils.

Teachers and parents are seen as partners in the children's learning, with co-operation and communication between home and school being vital ingredients in the educational process.  We share the same aim — the well being of the children in our care.

The school will encourage the involvement of parents through home/school contacts and through their involvement in the Parents Association of the school.

In our school we will endeavour to develop self-respect and respect for others in the pupils, and enhance the self-esteem of everyone in the school community. We also strive to promote well being, to develop in the pupils respect for property and to encourage in them the idea of being responsible and taking personal responsibility.

Shandrum National School will promote gender equality amongst the staff and pupils.

We aim to prepare our pupils for their place in a modern, multicultural society by promoting equality and celebrating the diversity we have in our school community.

We strive to promote individually and collectively the professional & personal development of teachers and SNAs through staff development courses, we encourage all our staff and pupils to have respect for diversity, be environmentally aware and develop an appreciation of their community.
